Bakemonogatari Vol.1 Getting Out of Stock Everywhere
According to several reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), the first volume of Bakemonogatari which is scheduled to be released today, was out of stock everywhere since yesterday in Japan. Certain store explains that it’s due to a sudden increase in preorders after the order settlement, which took up most of the shelf stock.
Many store in Akihabara also predicts that it would not be possible to buy both Blu-ray and DVD version of the show by the next two days; at least 600 preorders in Niconico Ichiba out of 1,400 orders could not be shipped on the first day.
Certain Anonymous posted on 2ch that Aniplex only ships less than 25,000 copies of the Blu-ray and DVD combined. If this is true, expect some disappointing sales in the first week.
(I guess they just miscalculate the shipping again, just like Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari which only sold 30,000 copies on the first week, but now likely to get pass the 70,000 mark by the next week.)

Clearly Aniplex are using the Wii tactic of supply shortages to create hype. Still first week sales are meaningless.. it’s not like anyone’s going to go in 3 years time.. “Wow K-ON! outsold Macross Frontier on Bluray and DVD in first week sales!” They’ll see the final figures which has MF way in front.
Hopefully they learn from Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari and Vol 1 that people really like this.

They did that with Kannagi and fail miserably. I see no reason for them to do this with Bakemonogatari, it already has enough hype, and shortage is too desperate it’s not even possible to buy vol.1 today. I mean, 16,000 yen.
(The thing is, mine is likely to get delayed to next month. Damn you Aniplex.)
